Couples Therapy for When You’re Stuck in the Same Arguments and Feel Disconnected
3-hour virtual couples therapy sessions for couples in Florida, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Georgia
You’ve tried to talk through it—but nothing is really changing.
You may find yourselves:
Having the same conversation again and again without resolution
Starting a conversation hoping it goes differently but it doesn’t
One of you trying harder to connect while the other feels overwhelmed or shuts down
Conversations escalate quickly or end with one of you pulling away
Avoiding certain topics because they always turn into conflict
Walking away thinking, “how did we end up here again?”
For some couples, things feel tense and reactive.
For others, it’s quieter and disconnected.
And over time, it becomes frustrating—because even when you understand what’s happening, the experience between you doesn’t actually shift. There is usually a reason for that.
Most couples aren’t struggling because they don’t care or aren’t trying.
They’re caught in a pattern that takes over in the moment.
Reactions happen quickly. Defenses come up. Conversations move fast—and before you know it, you’re back in the same place.
Even when you understand it, it can still feel hard to do something different in the moment.
The shift doesn’t happen just from understanding the pattern—it happens when you can recognize it as it’s unfolding and begin responding differently right there in the moment.
Couples therapy here is more than just talking about what’s happening.
Many couples come in having already talked through the same concerns—sometimes for months or even years—without things fully shifting.
In shorter sessions, it can be hard to stay with the process long enough for something different to actually take hold.
In extended sessions, we’re able to slow the interaction down and stay with what’s happening as it unfolds—rather than moving past it or stopping just as something important begins to surface.
That allows us to work with the pattern directly, so you can begin responding to each other in a way that actually leads somewhere different.
Over time, this can look like:
Conversations that don’t escalate the same way
Feeling less reactive in the moment
Being able to stay present instead of shutting down or pushing harder
Recognizing what’s happening underneath reactions as it’s happening
Communicating in a way that leads to resolution—not repetition
Rebuilding trust and emotional connection
This is the framework guiding how we work together.
In session, I integrate Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Relational Life Therapy (RLT) to address both the internal and relational dynamics happening between you.
IFS helps you understand the different parts of yourself that show up in conflict to include protective reactions, emotional triggers, and underlying needs—so those responses make more sense and become easier to work with.
RLT brings a direct, relational focus to how those patterns play out between you—helping identify what’s not working in the dynamic and guiding you toward more effective ways of responding to each other.
Together, this allows us to both understand why the cycle exists and actively shift how it plays out.
Hi, I’m Misty.
I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist working with couples who feel stuck in patterns that don’t seem to shift—no matter how much they’ve talked things through.
My work is grounded in Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Relational Life Therapy (RLT), with a focus on working with what’s happening beneath the surface as it shows up in session.
I understand how quickly these patterns can take over—and how frustrating it can feel when things don’t shift, even when you’re both trying.
I tend to work well with couples who are motivated, reflective, and ready to look more closely at what’s been happening between them—even when it’s not easy.
Over time, couples often begin to notice that conversations feel different. There’s more space, less reactivity, and a clearer sense of how to move through things together.
You don’t have to keep repeating the same cycle.
We can take the next step together.
How to get started
Schedule Your Session
Use the link below to choose a time that works for both of you.
You’ll enter both partners’ email addresses and select your preferred session time. Once your request is submitted, I’ll confirm your appointment and send intake paperwork within 24 hours.
Each of you will receive intake forms to complete 48 hours prior to your session. This typically takes about 20–30 minutes to complete.
This step helps me understand your relationship and what’s been happening before we meet, so we can use our time together more intentionally.
Complete Intake Paperwork
First Session
We’ll start by exploring what’s happening in your dynamic and work with it together in real time.
You don’t need to have everything figured out before you come in—this is where we begin to sort through it.
You leave with a clearer understanding of what’s been happening between you and how to respond to each other differently outside of session.
Couples Therapy (Virtual)
I offer virtual couples therapy for clients located in Florida, Virginia, Georgia, and Wisconsin with a focus on helping couples move out of stuck patterns and recurring conflict.
Sessions are held online, allowing you to attend from the comfort of your own space.
Couples work is offered in extended sessions to allow enough time to slow things down, understand the pattern, and begin shifting while you’re here.
3-hour couples sessions:
$675 per session
Most couples who reach out have already spent time trying to talk through things on their own -or in previous therapy -without things fully shifting.
Extended sessions create the space to move beyond surface conversation so you can actually see what’s happening between you and begin responding differently in the moment.
Sessions are self-pay.
This work tends to be a good fit if:
You’re both willing to look at your own role in what’s happening—not just your partner’s
You feel stuck in a pattern and want something to actually shift, not just talk about it
You’re open to slowing things down and working through interactions in real time
You’re able to stay engaged in the process, even when it feels uncomfortable at times
You’re looking for a more focused, structured approach rather than open-ended weekly sessions
This may not be the right fit if:
One or both of you are not open to examining your own responses or patterns
There is ongoing dishonesty or lack of transparency that isn’t being addressed
You’re looking for mediation or for me to determine who is “right”
You’re hoping for quick fixes without engaging in the process
A quick note:
Most couples don’t come in feeling completely aligned or confident about starting—some hesitation is normal.
What matters most is a willingness to show up, stay engaged, and be open to looking at what’s happening between you in a different way.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Traditional weekly sessions can be helpful, but they often don’t allow enough time to get to what’s really happening.
Just as things begin to open up, the session ends.
Extended sessions give us the space to slow things down, stay with important moments, and begin shifting patterns while you’re both present. This often leads to deeper understanding and more meaningful progress.
-
This is actually very common.
Couples often come in with different levels of readiness. You don’t both have to feel the same way about therapy to begin.
What matters most is a willingness to show up and be open to the process. We can work with hesitation as part of the dynamic—it doesn’t have to be a barrier to getting started.
-
Couples sessions are self-pay only.
Insurance requires a mental health diagnosis for one individual, and in this work, the relationship itself is the focus—not one partner.
This allows us to stay focused on the work you’re coming in for, without the limitations or requirements of insurance.
-
Many couples are surprised by how much can shift in a longer session.
Because we’re not stopping at the 50-minute mark, we’re able to move beyond surface-level conversations and work directly with what’s happening in real time.
You may not “solve everything” in one session, but you will leave with more clarity, direction, and a different experience of how you can relate to each other.
-
That’s actually part of the work.
Instead of avoiding conflict, we slow it down and work with it as it’s happening. This allows you to better understand the patterns underneath the argument and begin responding differently in the moment.
You won’t be left to figure it out on your own. We’ll work through it together.
-
Many couples begin with one extended session and then decide what feels most helpful from there.
There isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. For example:
Some couples schedule a few sessions closer together to build momentum
Some meet monthly for continued support and accountability
Others return every couple of months as things come up
And some use a single session to gain clarity and move forward on their own
We’ll talk through what makes the most sense for your relationship and adjust as needed.
-
Not at all.
Some couples reach out when things feel close to breaking, while others come in because they notice patterns forming and want to address them early.
If something isn’t working, that’s enough.
-
You can schedule directly through the booking link on this page.
You’ll be asked to enter both your email and your partner’s email and select a time that works for both of you.
Once your request is submitted, I’ll confirm your appointment and send intake paperwork within 24 hours.
-
That’s okay.
As long as you are both located in a state where I’m licensed (Florida, Virginia, Wisconsin, or Georgia), we can meet virtually—even if you’re in different physical locations during the session.
-
You’re not alone in that experience.
Often, couples have tried weekly therapy but still feel stuck in the same patterns.
Extended sessions allow us to approach things differently by creating more space to understand what’s happening and to begin shifting it in real time.
